Insurance adjusters want to have a meeting with me for an auto accident lawsuit. What is that for?

I was rear-ended in Oct.2008. My car was totaled and I have quite a few injuries now. My lawyer called and said I have to meet with the adjusters. But I am still not really sure what that is about? Also, What is a typical payout for situations like these? my injuries are TMJ, 2 torn rotator cuffs, 2 herniated discs in my lower spine , 1 bulging in my neck, And spasmodic torticollis. I am worried about my long term medical expenses from all of this. Can someone help answer some of my questions?
