If I buy GOLD and take its delivery personally, then I still have to pay for the custody charges ?

In case of taking delivery of gold, I have come across two cases, one is hiring a custodian service and other keeping the gold personally. In technical terms do the custody charges still applicable in case of keeping the gold personally at home?
